For years the sounds of the play Chicago have been ailing theater enthusiasts and thespians the world over. Naturally being a huge fan of the musical myself, I knew the Adrienne Arsht Center‘s version couldn’t too bad. With every new production that the performing arts center procures, my faith in a cultured Miami somehow intensifies! To my relief, this experience was no exception. I went into the show with neutral expectations, as one never knows what to expect from live performances. Gladly I was both enchanted and surprised with the production quality and the countless jaunty twists thrown in! Even if you think you know Chicago well, it is most certainly worth giving this rendition your attention!

The only negative criticism I have is Sofia Vergara‘s hyped up turned “so-so“ performance. For being featured as a headliner for the show, her role as corrupt matron “Ma-ma” was a big disappointment. It wasn’t that I expected her to fill the ever fabulous shoes of Ms. Queen Latifah, but she did not fit the role and was flat on her solo. In my opinion the show was stolen by Bryn Dowling as murderess, Roxie Hart! I got chills watching her do justice to the highly coveted role, act after act! I’m betting that, much like her character, Dowling’s name will be in lights for years to come! This production is a definite “must see” to theater goers and cult fans of the melodic comedy alike! The performers put on quite the show!
